罢丑别听Department of Sociology听will be organizing the monthly seminar for the month of October, on听听16th听of October 2017听at 3.00 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. in the Seminar Room of the Department of Sociology. At this seminar,听Prof.R. L. Stirrat听presented the lecture on听鈥淔orty Years On: The processes of change in a Sinhalese Fishing Village.

Prof. R.L. Stirrat taught at the University of Sussex between 1976 and 2010. Since then he has been a Research Professor associated with Sussex. As far as Sri Lanka is concerned, he has carried out ethnographic research in fishing communities, forms of religiosity amongst Roman Catholics, and the 鈥榓id community鈥 in Colombo. He has also directed two development oriented research projects in Sri Lanka, one concerned with coastal zone management, and the other with the role of charity and philanthropy in the development process.
