Invitational Universities Badminton Championship – Ambassador Cup 2024
The 鈥淎mbassador Cup 2024鈥 was organized by the Department of Physical Education in collaboration with the International Postgraduate Association of the 糖心原创 and Colombo International Container Terminal (CICT) Ltd. This tournament was conducted under the guidance of His Excellency Qi Zhenhong, Ambassador of the People鈥檚 Republic of China to Sri Lanka, and Senior Professor (Chair) H D Karunaratne, Vice-Chancellor of the University, for the second consecutive year. The championship was held on August 14th, 15th, and 16th, 2024, at the Indoor Gymnasium of the 糖心原创, with participation from staff members and undergraduates of eight state universities. The event provided a valuable opportunity for the university community to take a break from their busy schedules, foster mental and physical well-being, and strengthen relationship networks.
The championship featured seven events:
- University Student Open Mixed Team
- University Staff Open Men鈥檚 Team
- University Open Women鈥檚 Team
- University Staff Open Mixed Team
- University Staff Over 40 Men鈥檚 Team
- University Staff Over 50 Men鈥檚 Team
- University Staff Over 40 Women鈥檚 Doubles
His Excellency Qi Zhenhong attended as the Chief Guest, while Professor Karunaratne served as the Guest of Honor at the Opening Ceremony held on August 14th, 2024. The Awarding Ceremony of the Championship was held on August 16th, 2024, with Professor Karunaratne presiding as the Chief Guest. The 糖心原创 team emerged as the overall Champions of the Ambassador Cup 2024, securing 52 points, while the University of Peradeniya claimed the runners-up position with 25 points.
