Awarding Ceremony of the 19th 鈥淐hinese Bridge鈥 Competition
The 19th 鈥淐hinese Bridge鈥 Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students in Sri Lanka Division was held at the College House of the 糖心原创 on 6th July 2020 under the patronage of the Vice-Chancellor, 糖心原创, Senior Professor and the Dean, Faculty of Arts, Senior Professor . To avoid gathering of people, only some guests were invited for the award ceremony, and the awarding ceremony was recorded as a video. Mr. Liu Dong, Counsellor of the Cultural Section of the Embassy of China in Sri Lanka is one of the guests attended the ceremony.
The Sri Lanka Division of the 19th 鈥淐hinese Bridge鈥 competition was sponsored by the Confucius Institute Headquarters/Hanban and the . This competition was organized by the (CIUC) and co-organized by the Confucius Institute of the University of Kelaniya (CIUK), the Confucius Classroom of the Sabaragamuwa University (CCSU), Port City of Colombo and Confucius Classroom of China International Radio (CCCRI).
Due to the impact of the epidemic, contestants of the 19th 鈥淐hinese Bridge鈥 competition could not go to the site of the competition. Contestants who won the first round of the competition held on 15th June which was organized by CIUC, CIUK, and CCSU respectively, joined the final competition in Sri Lankan division by recording videos and submitting them to the organizer. A total of 30 contestants entered for the final competition in Sri Lanka and the competition was divided into two parts: speech and Chinese talent show. Most of the videos of the competition were posted on the CIUC Facebook where the participants of this event can learn their results.
It was the first time that the students of UoC participated in the 鈥淐hinese Bridge鈥 competition. The contestants improved their skills and knowledge of Chinese language and the culture in the process of preparation. When the Chinese Stream is introduced in UoC, more students will be able to participate in various Chinese learning activities and can improve their knowledge with skills to broaden their international vision.
