
Seminar on 鈥淣egotiating with Yak膩s: A Performative Approach to Study Healing Rituals and Demons鈥
The Department of Sociology organized the August Monthly Seminar of the Department Seminar Series on the听3rd聽of August 2017聽at the Seminar Room of the Department of Sociology. At this month鈥檚 seminar聽Dr. Eva Ambos聽from University of Heidelberg, Germany, presented on 鈥Negotiating with Yak膩s: A Performative Approach to Study Healing Rituals and Demons.鈥 Dr. Eva Ambos studied Cultural Anthropology and Contemporary European History at the University of Heidelberg, Germany. In 2015, she completed her PhD at the same University about the 鈥榟eritagization鈥 of the聽yaktovil听补苍诲听kohomba kankariya聽ritual healing systems in Sri Lanka. Since May 2017, she is a research fellow at the Institute for Asian Studies (IIAS) at Leiden, Netherlands. Dr. Ambos spoke on her research work she has been conducting in Sri Lanka and presented thought-provoking ideas on Yak Thovil and Healing Rituals in contemporary Sri Lanka.聽 This seminar was attended by several faculty members from the Faculty of Arts, along with students and members of the Sociology Alumni Association. The seminar was followed by a lively discussion.
