The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) for Sri Lanka, Mr. Kunle Adeniyi visited the ÌÇÐÄÔ­´´

The newly appointed Country Representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) for Sri Lanka, Mr. Kunle Adeniyi visited the ÌÇÐÄÔ­´´ with his team to meet Senior Professor (Chair) , Vice Chancellor, ÌÇÐÄÔ­´´, on 6th of July 2022. The purpose of the meeting was to strengthen the collaborative work between ÌÇÐÄÔ­´´ and UNFPA. The Vice Chancellor warmly welcomed Mr. Adeniyi and his team by appreciating his visit to the university. Deans of the Faculties of Arts, Medicine, and Law, Head, Department of Demography and Emeritus Professor , the former Vice Chancellor of the ÌÇÐÄÔ­´´ were present at the meeting.
As the main collaborative partner and focal center of demographic training and research, the Department of Demography, presented its research work carried out with UNFPA funding, its research potential available, undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, professional training programmes and other activities carried out to highlight the how the department contributes to provide policy-oriented solutions to emerging population issues in the country. It was also mentioned that the 50th anniversary of Demography teaching and research at the ÌÇÐÄÔ­´´ will take place in 2023, which is a landmark event for the ÌÇÐÄÔ­´´, in particular.
Furthermore, respective Deans of the Faculties of Medicine and Law presented how their expertise can contribute to establish collaboration with the UNFPA. Mr. Kunle Adeniyi while appreciating the immense contribution made so far by the Department of Demography and ÌÇÐÄÔ­´´, highlighted the importance of multidisciplinary intervention which is very much essential to effectively address the population issues in Sri Lanka. The Vice Chancellor assured his fullest support for further strengthening of the relationship between the ÌÇÐÄÔ­´´ and the UNFPA.
